Provide leadership for the engineering function to ensure that systems are being developed and are delivering continuous improvement through robust management systems and KPI measures
Effectively manage the team of maintenance engineers to ensure that all equipment and facilities are properly maintained to give maximum productivity
Ensure that all engineers are appropriately qualified to carry out the required work to the highest standards ensuring Health and Safety, Bernard Matthews and legislative compliance is always achieved
Ensure that there is cover across each shift accounting for holiday cover etc
Support site engineering team’s development and coach individuals towards improved performance and achievement, thereby assisting the site to achieve targets and key objectives
Develop engineering KPI’s to ensure visibility of supply engineering performance and required improvement for site.
To implement, monitor and maintain effective records for all Health and Safety, risk assessment, environmental and other recognised processes, and procedures to be legally compliant including but not restricted to; Electrical records, including PAT testing, site drawings, fire ammonia, temperature and alarm systems, hazardous license, disposal records for waste
Identify and share best practice and contribute to raising awareness, improving performance and transitioning to a “pro-active” engineering culture
Understand and be able to advise on best practice in Food Engineering standards
Work with other departments to determine their requirements for the installation of new equipment and production lines
Ensure all plant and equipment is maintained to be safe and fit for purpose and meets legal requirements
Design, implement and monitor an automatic PPM system to give the least downtime and maximum efficiency
Maintain the engineering spares and workshop in a tidy and efficient manner ensuring all contractors are effectively managed whilst on site, ensuring contractors work with Health and Safety and other applicable requirements
Manage all costs within budget including as examples but not limited to labour, overtime, projects, contractors, spares and equipment costs
Promote the development of existing and new standards for key items of equipment and facilities
Help in the development of and maintenance of business interruption and recovery plans
Monitor all energy and water usage over the site, identify areas for improvements and cost savings
Awareness of environmental legal requirements and the understanding of the importance of pro-active controls of environmental risks, waste reduction, water and power minimisation

To adhere to all health and safety legislations and to actively promote a safety culture.
Ensure all H&S requirements are met during all work activities
Correct PPE is worn as appropriate
Advise immediately on unsafe working practices
Duty of Care for Contractors, Permit to Work, preparation of Risk Assessments

Communication and team working
To ensure effective communication is in place within the team and that communication to other factory teams occurs in the appropriate manner
Update management team of potential failures and risks
Maintain all records and logs for consumables and waste
Update management team of service visit results and further planned work
Assist in the training of the engineering team in specialist areas of basic mechanical services
Contributes to the development of the engineering teamwork environment

Responsible for co-ordinating site visits
Schedules and assisting outside services, contractors
Receiving and collating reports for management review

Contributes to reviews of how operational performance can be improved on and how a company wide improvement culture can be established
Involvement in site services and plant improvements
Participates in team wide culture of generating and implementing continuous improvement methods
To undertake such additional duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with the level of responsibility within the site

Chartered status – CIEE or equivalent.
Experience of leading and managing the engineering function within a site of 500+ employees, ideally in a diverse and unionised environment
Experience of delivering engineering requirements in a business involving short shelf life products and intensive labour usage
Proven experience of delivering successful change management and performance improvement programmes
Self motivated and highly resilient
Ideally experience of a demanding retail or similar customer base
Technically strong, knowledgeable and able to provide accurate and detailed guidance to the senior management team
Project management knowledge and development of new systems and procedures
A qualified electrical/mechanical engineer with a food manufacturing maintenance engineering background
Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary team
