Are any of your products gluten free?
A.
All our Bernard Matthews branded pre-packed cooked meat products are gluten free, including our sliced, chunks and wafer thin products. See our suitable cooked meats ranges.

Do your products contain nuts?
A.
No. Bernard Matthews products do not contain any trace of nuts. All our production sites are ‘nut free zones’.
Q.
What is turkey ham?
A.
Turkey Ham is made from cured turkey thigh and drumstick meat. Ham is a word used for meat from the leg of any animal. See our popular Wafer Thin Turkey Ham product.

How do I find out where a certain product is listed?
A.
Most large supermarkets stock our Bernard Matthews products, however we are unable to list the exact stores that specific products are stocked, as we mainly deliver to their distribution stores. If you are having problems finding a certain product, please do let us know, and we will do our best to help you.
Q.
I would like to a cook a whole turkey but am not sure how long to cook, or defrost, it for?
A.
Whilst we mainly only sell whole turkeys at Christmas, we have our easy to use cooking and defrosting instructions on our website all year round. We want to make sure cooking a whole turkey is made as simple as possible, and that the turkey you serve is delicious and succulent. See how to achieve the perfect cooked turkey for any occasion.

Are your products all suitable for home freezing?
A.
Yes all our products are suitable for home freezing, however for best results, we do not recommend freezing our cooked meats products. If you choose to freeze our fresh coated poultry or cooked meats products, freeze on day of purchase and use within one month, use on the day of defrosting and do not refreeze once thawed.

Can I heat up your Turkey Breast Pieces?
A.
Yes you can, in fact this product is delicious hot or cold, and as it is already cooked, takes minutes to heat through in your favourite hot meal.

Do you produce free range turkey?
A.
Yes. At Christmas we produce free range turkeys for a variety of supermarket brands, both white and bronze breeds, on our farms across Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire.

Do you produce pork or lamb products?
A.
No. We only produce turkey and chicken products across our cooked meats, fresh and frozen product ranges, as our expertise and focus lies in creating great tasting poultry products for our customers.

What are the traffic lights for on the front of the pack?
A.
Traffic lights are a guide set by the FSA ( Food Standards Agency ) to help busy shoppers choose products as part of a healthy balanced diet. They outline the RI’s (Recommended In-take) of an adult or child, for salt, sugar, fat and saturated fat, and also calorie content. All our packs use these traffic lights for you to clearly see what each product contains.

Q.
Why does the packaging state 100% breast meat but on the ingredient it only contains 85% turkey meat for example?
A.
If we show on packaging that the product uses ‘100% breast meat’, it means that all of the meat used in making the product, is breast meat only. Our products are made up of a variety of ingredients, of which one is the meat such as turkey or chicken. On listing percentages, we therefore have to also account for the rest of the ingredients in the product.
Q.
Why do you state a number of products in your frozen breaded products, but you don’t always get that many?
A.
Our pack contents, in our frozen breaded products, are based on weight rather than the number of products in the pack, and so the number shown is an ‘average content’ – this is stated on the packaging near the nutritional information on the front of the pack and says that ‘numbers may vary’.

I have a new product or recipe idea, can I submit it?
A.
We are always pleased to hear about ideas from our customers and so we are more than happy to pass any ideas onto our Marketing and Product Development teams that you may have.

Do you have a staff shop and how do I get there?
A.
We have two staff shops selling discounted Bernard Matthews products at our Norfolk and Suffolk sites, are open to the General Public as follows:

What are you doing to protect the environment?
A.
We aim to be the UK’s greenest farmer and are already making headways to doing so. We have our own solar farms, wind turbines and anaerobic digestion plant (using our own waste) on sites, and have installed biomass boilers on 30 of our farms – all these initiatives are helping us become much less reliant on fossil fuels, ensuring by 2016, we are 100% self-sufficient in green electricity and by 2020, we plan to be 100% Carbon Neutral.

Do you donate to charities and organisations, and if so, how do I apply?
A.
As a large employer within Norfolk and Suffolk, we feel it is important to give something back to our community, and so donate to a variety of local charities and organisations through our Bernard Matthews Fund.
